Kitchen Floor Workover |
|
| |
Here is where the kitchen meets the dining room. Notice the loose tiles and cracked tiles. The kitchen floor is also 1/4 " higher than the dining room floor do to the thickness of the ceramic tile layerered on a linoleum floor and plywoob sub. |
| |
The grout is chipping and flaking out everywhere
making it impossible to keep the floor clean. It also looks fairly
disgusting !
|
| |
The tiles came up relatively easy since they
were adhered to a fairly smooth surface. This is the linoleum underneath
after tiles fillers and compounds have been removed.
|
| |
Here is another shot, you can see where the
previous job involved filling and leveling damaged areas of the linoleum.
Note that I did not remove the linoleum or the sub ply underneath.
Inspection of the flooring underneath where the two floors meet revealed
that the wood wasn't in the best condition. The linoleum is attached
with compound and about 500 nails!!

This is a shot from the dining room into the
kitchen after the laminate floor has been installed. The room actually
seems much bigger without the gridwork pattern of the tiles.

A shot from the kitchen into the dining room.
The floor in the kitchen is still about an 1/8" higher than the
dining room. A transition piece between the two rooms takes care of
this. Some trim and paint around the room and it will be all done.

This is a three part animation to show the
steps involved in this kitchen floor makeover.
