Crank
was a band formed from ex members of Blue Persuasion in the fall of
2000. The material was a bit heavier than the B/P stuff but the groove
and
melodic hooks were still there. It was great to work with Singer
John Pio again. A truly great voice and very well educated lyricist.
He paints a great picture, you see exactly what he wants you to see.
Match that with Colin Peterson, one of my all time favorite guitarists!
This cat has been touched by Hendrix, Page, Stevie Ray and Dicky Betts.
Heavy melody and pop sensibilities will put C on a thrown next to these
members of rock guitar royalty one day!! The six tracks on " Torque
Theory " were recorded in two days at Sheffield Studios in Hammond
In. during the summer of 2001 on a budget of $800.00. The opening
song is" Every Man For Himself ". Heavy on guitar
with an underlying groove throughout. This song is what rock n roll
is all about! Song Two is called " Raven ". this marks the
first studio recording of one o f
my songs. Hope ya like heavy plodding guitars (who says grundge is dead?).
Song three is " Johnny Bravo " yes that's right Greg
Brady's teen idol persona. This song has a groovy hook that just won't
quit. I dubbed in samples from the Bunch episode that featured Mr. Bravo
over the disco breakdown. This is a song about how talent doesn't always
land you the gig or the record deal. Lot's of times you loose out to
a band because they have the look and or the financial backing.
Song five is " In Stride " I tell ya, to this
day every time I hear the opening riff I see a team of cowpokes driving
a heard of cattle through the valley. One day I'll dub in the whip crack
and
YAW!! Don't get me started on the brawl in the saloon I see during the
guitar solo!! This was not at all intended to be the cowboy jam I'm
describing but sometimes you go in and record something and it sounds
as if it's a hundred miles from were you started............and I think
that's cool!! Number five " Fate Of Nations " (did
someone say Black Sabbath?) This dirge deals with the American Public's
fascination
with former president Bill Clinton's indiscretion with White House staff
member Monica. It became more entertainment and everyone kinda ignored
the fact that their president was lying to them and that he really didn't
have the set of values that make you worthy of the Presidency. Finally,
song six " Sunday, Sunday, Sunday " you know it! You
love it! Speed demons on the racing circuit. This songs motors straight
ahead without looking back! I was trapped in a lil room next to the
amp room when C was laying down track upon track on this one. That guitar
sounded so muddy and distorted I thought the amp was going to explode,
he was really pushing that line 6. I was sure there was no way that
sounded good in the control room......I was wrong!! My gear was simple
for this recording I brought my Rickenbacker 4001 bass and my SWR Workingmans
15 to the studio and Mike skipped the amp and just put me into the board
via a DI Box he'd gotten from Cheap Trick.
