Blue Persuasion

Jim Linstrum - Drums In the fall of 1989 I got a call from drummer Jim Linstrum to come audition for the bass position in a psychedelic blues band he'd been playing with. The current bassJohn Pio - Vocals player was going through some drama and couldn't focus on the band at the time. I got a tape of some of the material they had been working on, learned it and added some of my own feel to it then went and played with John, Colin and Jimmy. I'd met these guys briefly a few times when I went to their shows. It was great to hang and play with them and we hit it off really well, I think the way I played really complimented what they were doing. Months later ex-bassist Scott Brakebill got his affairs in order and was welcomed back as rhythm guitar into the band. Blue Persuasion went on from there for the next four years recording and gigging out as much as possible. In 1991 we recorded a five song demo on a budget of $800.00 at The Playroom in Park Forest Il. it was every Colin Peterson - lead Guitarones first experience recording in a professional studio. The songs were " Majesty Of My Soul " a really driving number with great hooks and great lyrics. The first song led directly into " Too Far Away To Care " with a thunderstorm raging into this melodic contemplation. The third song of this recording is Scott Brakebill - Rhythm Guitarcalled " Wall Of Truth " Colin busted out the the heavy blues roto vibe for this one and I did my best to funk up his groove. Next is " Southland " which oddly enough was our biggest song at shows, girls would scream and run out to the dance floor whenever we started this carefree jam. Closing this recording is Colin Peterson solo on the Dobro with " D-Blues " it's a short but deep seated piece that pays homage to the blues greats that inspire him. Many shows throughout Chicago, Illinois and Northwest Indiana followed after theses recordings and some were caught on tape. In 1993 John Pio had been struggling with throat troubles and decided he wouldn't be able to go on as lead vocalist of the Will Kolbert - Bass Guitar band. He encouraged the band to seek another singer and carry on but after much discussion we'd come to the conclusion that at that point we'd done more than we set out to accomplish and it wouldn't be right without John at the mic so we called it a day.
